The Los Altos School District Board of Trustees on Thursday held a public hearing on joint initial bargaining proposals from the district and the Los Altos Teachers Association and voted unanimously to approve the proposals.
Carrie Bosco, assistant superintendent and the district’s chief negotiator, and Melissa Powell, the teachers association negotiator, said the parties collaborated to present joint proposals. They said Article 17 of the current agreement (covering 2023–26) permits opening up to five additional articles chosen by each party, and the district and teachers association proposed jointly opening the following articles this year: Article 4 (leaves), Article 5 (transfers and reassignments), Article 6 (evaluations), Article 14 (work year/work day), Article 15 (class size) and Article 16 (unit member safety).
After the public hearing, which produced no public comments, Trustee Vladimir Vladovic moved to approve the joint initial proposal (with a noted date change) and Trustee Stella Camp seconded. The board took a roll-call vote: Jim Moore, Brian Johnson, Stella Camp and Vladimir Vladovic all voted yes and the motion passed unanimously.
Negotiations will proceed under the timeline established in the parties’ procedures; staff and the association did not present specific contract language at the hearing. Trustees thanked teachers for attending the meeting and indicated they look forward to continued collaboration during bargaining.
