The Jefferson City Council authorized a supplemental appropriation from the USS Jefferson City Submarine Trust Fund to cover expenses associated with the visits and events for the crew of the naval vessel named for the city.
Ken Gellich, chair of the USS Jefferson City namesake committee, told council the committee had been frugal in planning and did not expect to spend the entire appropriation. "I don't think we're gonna spend the whole $2,000, but it's nice to have it just in case," he said. The committee plans visits with local high schools, a University of Missouri research facility trip, media outreach and a welcome dinner for the crew, who were traveling from Guam.
Council voted to adopt the ordinance authorizing the supplemental appropriation; the amount was presented to council as the appropriation amount in the ordinance materials and discussed in committee testimony.
