During the public comment period, Lisa Porter, a Jefferson City resident, urged city officials to address safety issues at playgrounds in the 65101 ZIP code area.
Porter told council the metal slides at Hickory Park and other parks in the area lack protective coverings and safety rails and that exposed piping and an inadequate rope barrier create hazards for small children. She also called for more benches and tables near walkways, renovation or replacement of old restrooms and for improved watering of park grass.
"When I tell you it was too high and there's no covering, it needs 1," Porter said about a Hickory Park slide, adding she cannot safely let her 3‑year‑old grandchild use that equipment unattended.
Council members thanked Porter for bringing the concerns forward. The public comment record did not show immediate action or staff reply beyond the acknowledgement; staff follow‑up would be required to assess and schedule repairs.
