The budget committee reviewed the athletics and music budget requests for FY27.
Athletics presenter Angelo Fantasia said the athletic program request totals $475,271, representing roughly 0.55% of the district’s total budget. Fantasia said there were 693 registered athletes across the middle and high school programs as of 6 p.m. the night of the presentation, with 43 programs, 49 teams at the high school and 24 teams at the middle school. He noted 773 athletic events in 2024–25 (games and tournaments, not practices) and described major fixed costs — officials, assigners, entry fees and transportation — that comprise a significant share of the line items. Requested items include a practice wrestling mat and continued replacement of soccer goals and other field equipment.
Music presenter (Mr.) Schweiss said the music budget request of $118,596 funds ensemble fees, instrument repair and classroom supplies. He reported that 58% of eligible elementary students (grades 3–5) are enrolled in performing ensembles and 41% of secondary students participate in performing ensembles. Schweiss said about 1,074 Timberlane students would perform on stage during the year and that ensembles undertake roughly 50 on‑campus performances and 34 off‑campus events annually.
Schweiss described a long‑term goal to provide one year of no‑cost instrumental instruction to every student and outlined short‑term equipment priorities: repairing donated instruments, updating the mobile percussion/snare line and maintaining preferred bus rates for music travel. He said the Timberlane Music Association (TMA) is coordinating fundraising and can help connect families to instrument donations and short‑term financial assistance for trips.
The committee voted to accept both the athletics and music budgets for review at the amounts presented.
