City staff announced that Business View magazine selected Monte Vista as a "top managed city" in its population category and said the recognition will be featured in a profile the magazine is preparing.
Gigi, the staff member who coordinated the interview, told the council the magazine chose Monte Vista as "the top managed city of a population of 2,000 plus." Staff said the magazine conducted interviews this week and that the resulting feature will provide positive publicity for the community.
In the same report, staff said Sky High Event Center has hired a new director, Grace Baker, whom staff described as having event-marketing and venue-management experience and a background in building sponsorships and revenue for conference and trade-show programming. Staff said Baker is expected to expand business-oriented programming at the facility while continuing recreational uses. Staff also said the chamber's Destination Blueprint work has moved to the chamber and that Ryan Scavo of Fable Communications has been hired as a tourism marketing consultant; Scavo is expected to present to the council on Oct. 16.
No formal council action was associated with the announcements; staff recommended promotion and future presentations from the consultant and Sky High leadership.
