A member of the Sawyer County Finance Committee reported correspondence from the Public Works Committee that a proposal to open additional county roads to all-terrain vehicle (ATV) and utility-terrain vehicle (UTV) use will be forwarded to the local tribal council for review before coming to the full county board.
According to the update, tribal representatives requested the matter be placed before their council first; the public-works panel voted to honor that request and defer county-board consideration until after the tribal council reviews the proposal. The tribal council was scheduled to consider the item at its meeting on the 18th, the committee was told. One committee member said some county board members were upset that the item would not appear on the county board agenda immediately.
Discussion vs. decision: the public-works committee’s action was procedural—referral to the tribal council prior to county-board consideration. No county-board policy change or final action was taken at this meeting.
