Dale Grieve, a long-time resident, presented an informational request to the Village of Saint Charles Council proposing a waterways trail, an on-river park and a state historical marker at SID Park.
"I'm speaking to you this evening about the possibilities of waterways trails, a beautiful on river park, and a state historical marker in SID Park here in St. Charles," Grieve said during public comment and said he had prepared "copies of my report, and a map to be distributed to the council members" for additional detail. He described travel experience on the Saginaw Valley River system and said he had studied Saint Charles history for several weeks in preparing his materials.
Grieve told the council the Shiawassee Flats provide about 75 miles of motorboat-navigable waterways at normal water levels and suggested the trail could begin and end in downtown Saint Charles, including both the Old Business District and North Saint Charles. He emphasized local importance of "the reunification of Saint Charles and the local waterways between Saint Charles and Saginaw." Grieve left copies of his informational folder and map with council members for follow-up.
Council members accepted the materials; a staff member asked whether contact information was included and Grieve confirmed it was in his packet. The council did not take formal action on the proposal during this meeting; the presentation was recorded as informational input during public comment.
