Pocatello Police Union highlights community outreach, recruitment gains and member support programs

Dane Eborn, vice president of the Pocatello Police Union, presented the union’s quarterly update to the council, describing a long list of community engagement events, charitable efforts and contract changes aimed at recruitment and retention.
Eborn said union members routinely support local events — from school and youth programs to fraud-awareness workshops, drug take-back events and Special Olympics fundraising — and cited an example of a union-organized hotel stay and taxi assistance for a visitor who needed to stay in town to see a dying parent.
“We are proud to serve this city, not just in uniform, but as active participants in its growth and well‑being,” Eborn said, and he told council the union currently has 89 active members. Eborn said the most recent contract contained improvements for new hires, lateral transfers and current staff that the union expects will help recruitment and retention.
The union also reviewed upcoming outreach events — community safety fairs, drug take-back programs, youth events and charity fundraisers — and described continuing coordination with city HR and department leadership on compensation and staffing issues.
Councilors thanked the union for community work and discussed recruiting challenges facing law enforcement nationally and locally. No formal council action followed the informational update.
