Board approves $122,900 fencing contract for Fremont Middle School to secure field

The Douglas County SD 4 Board approved construction of fencing to enclose the remaining unfenced portion of Fremont Middle School’s field, voting unanimously to accept a low bid of $122,900 from Freedom Fence.
Director of Finance and Operations Danielle Littlefield told the board the unfinished portion of fencing had allowed people and dogs to access the field during student use. “Completing this fencing will then complete the enclosure at Fremont,” she said. The board noted recent incidents, including individuals with mental-health issues entering campus and stray dogs on the field, as reasons to prioritize the work.
Funding and procurement: Board discussion identified the funding source as the district’s major maintenance fund (referred to as the 404 fund). Littlefield said the district solicited three quotes and selected Freedom Fence as the lowest bidder. Board members acknowledged the project had not been specifically budgeted but said completing the enclosure was a student-safety priority and that some other maintenance projects would be deferred to cover the cost.
Outcome: The motion to approve the contract carried unanimously. Superintendent’s office staff said they would schedule installation as soon as possible.
