Commission presses staff for clear parks master-plan and splash-pad next steps; public works eyes solar carports

Public Works Director Jeff Olams briefed the commission on multiple capital projects, including force-main work on Southwest 30th Street, lift stations and road projects coming in the next 90 days. Olams said Miramar provided plans and vendor details for a splash pad that Pembroke Park staff can use to speed procurement.
Several commissioners raised long-standing confusion about the parks master plan and a prior contract with consulting firm Beta Jones; commissioners asked staff to compile existing drawings and documentation and bring a consolidated parks and town-property master plan back for review. Olams said there is about $400,000 in earlier park grant funding the town must account for and that staff would coordinate with finance.
Commissioner Morissette also requested a study of solar carports and battery storage for municipal parking lots and roofs. She said initial estimates show payback in four to five years and recommended staff pursue firm proposals and FPL coordination. The commission directed the town manager and public works director to prepare project summaries and schedule a roundtable to finalize scope and funding.
