Dolton to repave a dozen streets this week; trustees seek grant for additional work next year

Trustee Steve and village staff told the Dolton Board of Trustees on Oct. 6 that repaving work on a prioritized list of streets is scheduled to start this week and that the village has applied for a larger grant to fund additional street and alley work next year.

Why it matters: Street resurfacing affects safety, emergency access and daily travel for residents; the trustees said the projects are part of ongoing public-works improvements.

Trustee Steve said crews will begin resurfacing work between Oct. 7 and Oct. 8 and that 12 streets in the village are scheduled for repaving this year. He told residents that alleys were not included in the current contract but that the village has applied for a grant to fund additional streets and alleys in the next year.

Village Engineer Smith provided a written report to the board listing the streets most in need; the packet will be available to trustees and the public, and staff said they would provide a block-by-block schedule on request. Trustee Steve also said a public-works committee meeting will be scheduled and announced in the usual channels.

Residents with immediate questions were told to contact the village engineer or public-works superintendent for timing and parking instructions; one resident said signs went up with little advance notice and asked for clearer communications next time.
