Mayor challenges commissioner's claim that multiple mayors raised concerns about public-meeting laws

Mayor Hilary Malcolmson, speaking during public comment at the Oct. 9 Yamhill County Board of Commissioners meeting, told the board she checked with fellow mayors and found no one who had contacted Commissioner King about confusion concerning public meeting laws.
“None of my colleagues confirmed reaching out to commissioner King or voiced any concerns or confusion regarding public meeting laws,” Malcolmson said. She asked the record to reflect the discrepancy after comments Commissioner King made at the Sept. 25 meeting in which he said he had been asked “at least 6 times this week” about rules that could make two officials meeting be perceived as a quorum.
In response, Commissioner King apologized: "My my apologies is that, you know, during that week, I had lots of citizens reach out, but I've also had conversations throughout my term. So sorry if that was, misconception there and if I misspoke that way. My apologies." Chair Johnson did not announce any formal follow-up during the Oct. 9 meeting.
Malcolmson’s statement was entered into the meeting record and the commissioners proceeded to other agenda items. The mayor also noted she had a written statement; the meeting record indicates emailed public comments were added to the record as well.
