Polk County staff requested that the Board of Commissioners approve a reclassification for an employee, saying the change would be retroactive to Oct. 1 if the board signs off.
Mister Hawkins, a Polk County staff member, told the board Oct. 8 that the reclassification is for Jesus Maciel Abaraca, currently a Community Resource Connector II, to be reclassified as Lead Community Resource Connector. "He's been doing this since April, and working out of class. So he's been getting recognized and paid for that, but he's been doing it a while. We need to make it official," Hawkins said.
Hawkins said the county would make the effective date Oct. 1 if the board approves and that the fiscal impact would be "approximately $2,700, for a 12 month period, including PERS contributions." The figure was presented by Hawkins as the estimated county cost; the transcript does not show a vote or motion on the reclassification.
Earlier in the meeting the board approved the agenda, minutes from Oct. 1, 2025, and the consent calendar, but the transcript provides no recorded motion or tally tied to the employee reclassification item. The presentation described work already performed in the higher role and staff payments made for work done "out of class," but did not include additional staffing details such as the funding account or department budget line to cover the ongoing cost.
The request was presented during the general meeting; no formal outcome on the reclassification was recorded in the available transcript. The board adjourned after other business.
