Fort Myers Beach adopts FY26 fee schedule with higher building, parking and vendor fees

The Fort Myers Beach Town Council approved a revised FY2026 fee schedule that raises multiple building-permit and operational fees and adjusts parking and vendor license rules.
Finance Director Joe Onczyk and planning staff presented the changes and explained that several updates were added after the last packet was published; the council approved the consolidated, amended schedule by recorded vote.
What changed: the fee schedule packet and staff presentation included dozens of line-item adjustments across planning, building and public-works fees. Staff highlighted these changes on the record: - Resident parking sticker: increased from $25 to $50 (presentation noted earlier proposals of higher increases and subsequent clarifications by staff and council). Thomas Yazzo, Emergency Services Director, clarified that town resident parking stickers will allow residents to park in town-owned legal parking spaces year-round (including many beach-access and downtown spaces) under the updated policy. - Building and permit fees: multiple line-item increases were proposed and read into the record. Examples included concrete restoration, certain roofing, driveway and dock/boat-lift fees (incremental increases), and higher reinspection, permit-extension and resubmittal charges. Staff indicated these changes were intended to align fees with processing and inspection costs. - Bay Oaks Recreation Center: youth-club and program fees were revised (resident and nonresident semester/year rates were updated in the packet).
Council discussion focused on constituent concerns about parking and beach-raking fees; members said staff had adjusted the beach-raking permit and other items after receiving public feedback. Councilor King specifically thanked staff for revising the beach-raking fee to address comments.
The council voted to adopt Resolution 25-280 (final fee schedule) with the building-fee amendments the staff introduced; the vote carried unanimously.
