Valley County's veteran service officer reported to the board Oct. 8 on preparations for a Nov. 8 veterans stand-down to be held at Ridley's parking lot and organized with the American Legion and other partners.

Jamie, the county veteran service officer, said local businesses and organizations are providing in-kind donations and that fund-raising has produced $3,000 to purchase 100 coats for distribution at the event. "We did get the other than honorable overturned. They're now honorable, and everything that comes with that," Jamie said in a separate item about a long-running benefit case she helped move forward.

Jamie said Central District Health will bring overdose kits and Ignite Idaho will discuss counseling funds; the VA will provide DRMO (surplus) items such as sleeping bags and blankets. Ridley's grocery pledged food donations and Franklin Building Supply committed winter leather gloves.

Commissioners discussed a small county payment to support the Legion. The chair noted that an annual levy exists to support the Legion building and memorial; commissioners agreed that the Legion could submit a claim for $515 and that the county would process that claim at the Oct. 15 claims payment run.

Jamie asked staff to include event paperwork with the meeting packets in future weeks; commissioners asked that supporting documents be provided in time for advance review.
