CLAC members push to adopt bylaws, expand outreach and vary meeting formats

"My personal recommendation is I would start fresh and adopt new bylaws probably," a staff member said, adding the district could provide templates and assist with drafting a short, two-page set of bylaws.
CLAC members proposed changing program planning so the committee schedules an external speaker every other meeting and reserves other meetings for open discussion and parent concerns. Members also discussed outreach tactics to boost attendance: classroom flyers, school newsletters, a district Google group/email alias for archiving agendas and minutes, magnets or business-card-style reminders for refrigerators, and broader use of school newsletter calendars.
Staff volunteered to reset the CLAC district Google account and to post meeting materials to the district website when possible. Committee members also discussed recruiting student and teacher representatives and using targeted themes or surveys to surface topics that would draw parental attendance.
There were no votes or formal adoptions of bylaws at this meeting; staff said they would aim to provide a draft by the November meeting and to seek state CLAC guidelines.
