The personnel and human services committee approved an advanced‑step hire request for the health department to fill a clinical and community health nurse manager position (a replacement for Donna Payne), the committee chair reported.
Commissioners voted to appoint Rachel Wade and Cynthia Gray to the mental‑health authority to fill vacancies; the appointments run through March 31, 2026. The motion to appoint was moved and supported and the board recorded ayes in favor.
The committee also discussed several juvenile‑center operational matters without taking formal action. Topics included the number of open beds, staffing for secure and nonsecure areas, the hiring criteria and vacancies, the assessment tool used by the juvenile center, and the status of the center’s director. Committee members requested additional information on those topics before any personnel or program decisions are made.
Health‑department director Guy Miller briefed the committee on a pregnancy prevention grant that has received state funding and targets pregnancies in Niles and Benton Harbor. The register of deeds software contract extension was reviewed and recommended as a resolution to the full board, and routine pension refunds and rollovers were approved.
