Sept. 18, 2025 — At the Public Utility Advisory Board meeting, staff updated members on the advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) procurement and said negotiations with the first‑choice vendor have stalled over terms and conditions, prompting the utility to negotiate with its second‑ranked provider.
“We had as a group selected a vendor that we wanted to move forward with for the program management. We’ve been having some issues coming to terms and conditions on the legal side of those negotiations,” a staff member said. The staff member added that the city is working with procurement to begin negotiations with the second‑selected vendor.
The staff member told the board that although the process has taken longer than hoped, officials would rather delay than finalize a contract that does not meet the city’s legal and project requirements. “As much as I wanted to move forward, I’m not in a hurry. We need to do it right,” the same staff member said.
No motion or formal procurement decision was taken at the meeting; staff said they would report back as negotiations progress.
