Pullman’s IT staff updated the school board on the district’s rollout of LineWise filtering and classroom-management tools on Sept. 10, saying teacher training has begun and a network inline appliance is in place pending a planned firewall cutover.
An IT presenter identified as Tyler described summer work that included updating desktop PCs for the Windows 10 end of life, repairing and preparing approximately 1,000 Chromebooks, and moving middle-school devices to Chrome carts. Tyler said he visited each school during teacher education days to demonstrate LineWise features and to collect feedback.
Tyler said LineWise’s cloud-based filtering protects district-managed devices, and an inline appliance has been installed in the network stack to filter unmanaged or non-enrolled devices; that appliance is connected to the new firewall and will become active when the district completes the firewall switchover. He said the district has worked through several Windows-lab compatibility issues and remains in contact with the vendor to resolve remaining functionality on some Windows-based CTE computers.
Tyler said initial usage data show a notable drop in YouTube traffic compared with last year and that teachers can temporarily unblock resources for instructional purposes. He said the district plans to share parent-control options and guidance with families after the technical rollout stabilizes.
