The Pullman School District Board of Directors reviewed a proposed 2025–26 board professional-development plan at its Sept. 24 meeting and considered a resolution to allow newly elected or appointed board directors to attend the Washington Association of School Directors (WASDA) annual conference at district expense.
District staff outlined mandatory and recommended trainings already on the calendar, including open-government training and optional tribal-consultation training, and noted opportunities during the WASDA conference and at board work sessions for onboarding and other development. The board discussed scheduling a regular board self-assessment tied to future retreats or work sessions to inform professional-development priorities.
On the resolution, Superintendent Dr. Maxwell explained that boards sometimes pass a resolution allowing the district to pay expenses for newly elected or appointed directors who have not yet been sworn in to attend the WASDA conference; the resolution would not list names and is a common practice to allow expense coverage. Board members said the matter was not time sensitive but could be moved to action later if the district needs to plan travel arrangements for newly elected directors.
No formal vote on the WASDA resolution was taken at the meeting; the professional-development plan will be refined based on board feedback and scheduled training opportunities.
