City Springs west garage entrance to close weekdays for maintenance starting Sept. 22

A staff member announced that the City Springs parking garage will close its west entrance for weekday maintenance beginning Sept. 22, with closures scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The east entrance off Mount Vernon Highway will remain open during the work.
The move is part of preventive maintenance on the parking-deck structure. “We are in the process of doing preventive maintenance and general maintenance on the parking deck structure itself,” a staff member said. Another staff member described the specific work: “Work is underway right now to replace bearing pads on all levels of the parking deck.”
Staff explained that the garage is a concrete structure that relies on bearing pads to absorb movement between spans. “There are pads in there that are supposed to absorb that bounce. The pads wear out. We're lifting spans just a short amount, half an inch to an inch, enough that we pull the old bearing pads out, replace them with new bearing pads,” the staff member said.
As the work progresses, signage and online information will direct drivers to available parking. Officials directed people seeking details to citysprings.com/parking. The staff members did not provide an overall completion date for the project or say how long the full repair work will take.
