At the Oct. 8 meeting the superintendent reported strong school report-card results and described student-engagement programs the district used this fall to promote connections and school safety.
Report cards: the superintendent said Canfield Middle School earned five stars, CH Campbell and Hilltop elementary schools earned five stars in key categories, and Canfield High School scored 4.5 overall with 5 in achievement and gap closing but lower marks in a new postsecondary-readiness component. The superintendent said the district will improve coding and recordkeeping to raise the new component score and that district staff already have a plan to improve the measure.
Student engagement and programs: the superintendent described "Hello Week" activities intended to connect students, Kindness Clubs at elementary and middle schools, and a special event that hosted more than 200 students with special abilities paired with high-school peers. He said the district emphasizes connections — clubs, sports and activities — as central to student safety and wellbeing. The superintendent also reviewed fall athletics updates and announced Veterans Day programs across district buildings in early November.
The report was informational; no board action was required on the report-card items at this meeting.
