"I have 3 quotes to present to you," the staff member said, and recommended using the low bid while setting a not-to-exceed figure in case the lighting fixture added unexpected cost.
The commission was told the quoted amounts do not include the actual light fixture. "This does not include the light fixture," the staff member said, adding that engineering would return a fixture recommendation soon. Commissioners noted the project will tie into other planned landscaping and infrastructure work in the area and discussed the flagpole, which staff said will be 40 feet tall.
A commissioner moved to approve the Newport Landing electrical run bid "not to exceed $12,000," and after a second the commission voted to approve the motion 4-0. The staff member said they expected to provide the fixture recommendation and additional information to Craig in the next few days.
Commissioners raised a follow-up question about who will be responsible for routine flag replacement; staff said that was not specified and they would check and report back. The commission had no further substantive changes to the project before the vote.
