Council hears progress updates on Estero Boulevard lighting, Old San Carlos intersection work

Councilors asked for updates Sept. 24 on the status of street-lighting work along Estero Boulevard and the Old San Carlos intersection.
Town staff said the Old San Carlos/Estero signal required transformer and electrical work and that the county had put an electrical contract out for bid to raise the transformer and replace equipment. Staff said one light will be controlled by FDOT and another by Lee County but the agencies are coordinating. Town staff said they were preparing an RFQ for the town’s corridor lighting work under a CDBG-DR-funded project; once a contractor is procured the work should move quickly.
Councilors also asked whether the broader decorative-lighting work being coordinated by Aspire (Chris Powell) would include temporary poles or other interim solutions; staff said decorative poles and fixtures are part of the Aspire scope while the town’s RFQ will focus on conduit, wiring and pole installation to meet wind-load standards. Staff said they would coordinate with FPL, Aspire and county permitting to avoid remobilization and timing problems.
No formal votes were taken; staff said they would continue coordination with county, FPL and project managers and would provide updates to council as procurement and permitting progress.
