The Board of Education on Thursday read a resignation statement from Joe Anaya, a long‑time teacher and administrator in the Locust Valley Central School District, and trustees publicly acknowledged his departure and thanked him for his service.
Superintendent Doctor Cimpino read a prepared statement from Anaya in which he said his decision to resign was a personal choice to pursue an opportunity allowing him more time with family and to ease a long commute. The statement said Anaya leaves “with nothing but appreciation for the students, families, colleagues, and friends who have shaped my journey here.”
Trustees offered public thanks, and some members of the public urged the district to prioritize internal candidates for future openings. A public commenter, John Delgado, praised Anaya and asked the board to hire from within the district when possible so experienced staff who “know these kids” remain in the system.
No personnel votes were recorded on Thursday related to Anaya’s resignation; the resignation was placed into the public record and included on the meeting’s personnel action report.
