Locust Valley board formalizes practice of student ex officio members; two students sworn in

The Locust Valley Central School District Board of Education on Thursday adopted a resolution formalizing the process by which the high‑school student government president and vice president will serve as ex officio, non‑voting members of the board for the 2025–26 school year.
The resolution, read at the meeting, cites Education Law section 17 0 2 3 and 18 oh 4 12 (as quoted in the resolution text) and states that the duly elected president and vice president of the high‑school student government will be designated as ex officio members provided they have attended the district high school for at least one year. The resolution specifies that student members “shall not be allowed to vote, shall not be allowed to attend executive sessions … and shall not be entitled to receive compensation of any form.”
Trustee Lauren Dimas moved the resolution; Holly seconded it. The board voted unanimously in favor. The board then administered oaths of office to Grant Creedon, the student government president, and Christian Ciccone, the vice president, each to serve a one‑year term commencing Sept. 15, 2025 and ending June 30, 2026.
Grant Creedon gave the student report after being sworn in and said he looks forward to increasing student involvement and school spirit. The resolution formalizes a practice the board said it had already been following monthly through student reports and establishes the selection process in board policy.
