The Aurora Chamber of Commerce told the Planning and Economic Development Policy Committee on Oct. 8 that it volunteered to administer the Arapahoe County enterprise zone, a state-designated program that now includes portions of Aurora.
Naomi, representing the chamber, said the enterprise-zone map will encompass three Aurora areas — including segments of the Colfax corridor, a Havana Street/I‑225 corridor and the south area — and that eligible businesses can apply for sales-tax credits tied to equipment purchases, building renovations and certain job-related incentives. Naomi said businesses can recapture a share of hard costs — she said examples include a 25% credit on qualifying renovation hard costs — and that the chamber will push outreach to redevelopment projects in Aurora.
Planning staff member Daniel Krasnowski confirmed the enterprise zone is a state program and noted that such state-designated zones can overlap or layer with other local district designations, including a downtown designation or a DDA, where applicable. Committee members discussed possible use of enterprise-zone credits in support of Colfax-corridor redevelopment and asked staff and the chamber to return with maps and outreach materials.
Chamber staff said they will provide a map of the designated areas and additional guidance for businesses and developers. No formal committee action was taken at the meeting.
