The Coconut Creek City Commission authorized the use of $28,000 in federal forfeiture funds on Oct. 9 to buy drones, a ground robot, spare parts and related training and equipment for the city's special weapons and tactics (SWAT) team.
Chief Fred Hofer (identified in the record as police chief) told the commission the purchase will be funded from federal forfeiture trust funds and therefore will not use city general-fund dollars. The purchase list included an Axon Loki 2 drone starter kit, an Axon Cygni ground robot starter kit, an Axon ground control system starter kit, spare parts, tactical bags, an Axon SkyHero operator certification course and a 27‑inch monitor; staff also listed an "Axon p7 Loki pouch" and a TruckVeil drone responder 7.
Chief Hofer said the equipment will update the SWAT team's tools to current industry standards and allow the department to use technology to keep officers safer. He added staff planned to offer demonstrations when training is complete.
The commission approved Resolution 2025-155 authorizing the expenditure. Commissioner Bridal moved the resolution; Commissioner Brody seconded. The roll-call vote was unanimous in favor. No public comment or budget amendment was recorded at the meeting.
