Committee approves sheriff holiday addendum and proclaims crash-responder safety week

The Public Safety Committee on Oct. 3 approved sending to the county board a resolution amending the sheriff’s personnel-policy addendum to add two holidays: the day after Thanksgiving and Good Friday. A motion from Chad to move the resolution forward, seconded by Julie, passed with committee members saying “aye” and no opposition recorded. The presenter said a memorandum of understanding with the collective bargaining unit is being drafted to reflect the changes.
Separately, the committee adopted a proclamation recognizing Crash Responder Safety Week. A presenter explained that the proclamation—part of a statewide effort—encourages motorists to slow down and move over to protect law enforcement and emergency personnel working crash scenes. The committee agreed to use supplied materials on social media and local channels during the designated week. A motion to adopt the proclamation passed unanimously.
