Anchorage committee seeks $2,000 in town support for 2026 Cruisers Appreciation Day; council to route request into budget process

Sam Lurie, vice chairman of the Anchorage Advisory Committee, asked the council on Sept. 11 to roll over $1,577.36 in surplus donations from the committee’s April 27 Cruisers Appreciation Day and to include $500 in the town’s FY2026 budget to ensure the committee can stage a similar event on April 12, 2026.
Lurie described the 2025 event as having grown significantly from earlier years, attracting two dozen environmental and marine displays and local sponsors. He said organizers do not expect to need the town funds but want the budgeted $500 as a financial backstop if the event is rained out or sponsors fall through. “We’re just asking you to roll over the $1,577 … a surplus, after we paid all the bills,” Lurie said.
The committee also thanked harbor staff and the harbor master for installing a new dinghy dock and pilings, which the committee said improved safety and public access. Councilors said the request would be routed to the town manager and finance director for inclusion in the budget process and asked that it reach the town manager before a 5 p.m. finance discussion the same day.
Ending: The council directed staff to relay the request to the town manager and to include the rollover request and the $500 ask in budget discussions; the committee will present a fuller event plan and formal request on Nov. 3, 2025.
