The Green Bay Equal Rights Commission on Sept. 11 voted to refer to staff a proposal to hold an annual consultation with Human Resources about civil-rights training for city employees and to produce an inventory of current training options and participation rates.
Commissioners said they want the commission's recommendations to be formalized so training does not get overlooked and to encourage high-quality curricula from experienced providers. Commissioners suggested the commission could recommend providers and content areas to HR, and asked staff to ask HR for a list of existing training, who provides it and how many employees complete it.
The motion to refer the consultation item to staff passed by voice vote. The commission flagged that recommended materials should include civil-rights topics across employment and public-service contexts and that any public-facing resources be accessible and, where appropriate, multilingual.
Staff were asked to coordinate with HR and return with a summary of available trainings and participation metrics so the commission can prepare formal recommendations to present to the council if needed.
