The York City Historical Architectural Review Board approved an application to replace the roof at 26 West College Avenue with Patriot XL asphalt shingles in ash gray at its Oct. 9 meeting.

Board members said their review covers only exterior work and that most items on the applicant’s permit (drywall, laminate floors, interior framing) were outside the board’s jurisdiction. “None of those matter to us. Those are all on the inside of the house,” a board member said during the discussion.

The applicant and the board clarified that the only exterior modifications approved were a new roof and that the existing main front door would remain. A board member moved to approve the application specifying that the only exterior modification would be a new roof; a second clarified the roof product as a replacement of the existing 3-tab shingles with Patriot XL shingles in ash gray. The motion passed; the board recorded the outcome as approved with the ayes prevailing.

Board members instructed the applicant to return for separate approval if any additional exterior changes are proposed in the future.

The board handled procedural items (minutes approval) before this case and moved through other agenda items after the vote.
