The City of Green Bay Improvement and Services Committee approved multiple Department of Public Works contract awards on Sept. 10, covering paving, bridge rehabilitation, parking‑ramp HVAC, dog‑park fencing and a kitchen exhaust project for Fire Station No. 3.
Public Works staff described the paving contract (WSG3‑25 Sandbunker paving) as necessary to replace deteriorated pavement beneath the city’s sand‑and‑salt storage to prevent salt seepage. Peters Concrete Company submitted the low bid at $137,250.90; staff said $102,000 of that cost will be paid from ARPA funds with the remainder from capital fund balance. "So the pavement is in pretty bad shape," a Public Works staff member said, noting a state inspection prompted the work.
The committee also approved bridge rehabilitation for the Dans Avenue bridge (award to Zenith Tech, $207,740.58), a new HVAC unit for the Cherry Street south elevator ($56,700 to Engabos Heating and Cooling), replacement of the kitchen exhaust hood at Fire Station No. 3 ($120,820 to Herkman Mechanical Industries Inc.), and dog‑park fencing at East River Meyer Park ($52,656 to Maurer Fence Company). Staff said most of the items received one or two bids and that budget balances or capital fund balances will cover the increased costs where applicable.
Each contract award passed by voice vote after motions and seconds recorded in the meeting; most were described as routine capital or maintenance work. Staff noted the bridge project will address surface cracking and approach slab replacement to extend the structure’s service life, and the elevator HVAC is the final piece following a recent elevator replacement, intended to protect sensitive equipment from moisture.
