City reports progress at Remington Park infield and Manhattan Park construction

Parks Department staff reported April 28 that Remington Park’s baseball infield irrigation and drainage work is complete and that field restorations have reduced game cancellations, while Manhattan Park construction continues on schedule with multiple recent milestones.
Eric (parks staff) said an infield irrigation system and full-field drainage were installed at Remington Park over spring break and that the field has drained well in subsequent use; staff noted a single game cancellation before spring break for restoration work but no weather-related cancellations since the irrigation system was activated. Eric added that sand topdressing and continued drainage monitoring are planned this spring to further level the field and promote playability.
Eric also gave a progress update on Manhattan Park’s redevelopment: the pavilion structure was recently erected, the splash pad concrete has been poured, and a boulder scramble on the playground’s backside is complete. Sport courts are scheduled to be painted in May when temperatures rise, playground equipment installation will begin in the coming weeks, and the restroom roof is in transit from Canada. Staff reported the project remains on schedule for a June completion and, so far, near the original contract amount with contingency funds intact.
Eric encouraged commissioners and residents to visit the site with caution during construction and to contact staff with questions. No formal action was required; the commission received the construction updates.
