Wichita County backs creation of homelessness advisory committee

The Wichita County Commissioners Court on Aug. 5 approved, as part of its consent agenda, a resolution expressing the county's support for creation of a homelessness advisory committee. The resolution envisions a seven-member committee: four appointees from the city of Wichita Falls and three from Wichita County, and it lays out an objective list to be completed within 18 months.
County officials said the Wichita Falls City Council is expected to consider the companion action in roughly two to three weeks; once both bodies take action the committee's members will be named and begin work. The court approved the consent agenda by voice vote; Commissioner Fink Cannon moved to approve and Commissioner Beauchamp seconded. The motion carried 5-0.
The resolution was one of nine items on the consent agenda that the court adopted without separate debate. No additional budget allocations or appointments were made at the Aug. 5 meeting; officials said the committee will begin work once membership is finalized.
