The Village of Suamico Board of Trustees unanimously approved a memorandum of ground lease and ground lease agreement with AT&T to allow installation of a backup generator at the village's water tower site at 1877 Pride Terrace.
Director Schmitz told the board AT&T requested additional ground space outside the scope of its existing tower lease to accommodate the generator; the parcel needed is about 109 square feet (roughly 8 by 14). He said AT&T agreed to cover project costs and the village's attorney fees for review. The additional lease area will pay $325 per month with a 3% annual increase.
A village staff member explained the generator request originated from police and fire leaders after storms disrupted communication with dispatch when the tower lost power: "police and fire were asking for this generator." Director Schmitz said the site will be enclosed with a slotted fence to screen equipment. Trustee McKeefray moved to approve the memorandum and ground lease and Trustee Romas seconded; the roll call vote was 7โ0 in favor.
The lease income will go to the village/water utility under the existing arrangement; trustees recorded no dissent.
