The City of Marshfield Plan Commission voted to approve an alternative sign permit for a proposed mural on the north side of the Mueller Building at 111 East Fourth Street.
Planner Bryce Henbrook said murals in the sign code require an alternative sign permit and noted the downtown master plan's recommendations to "activate the alleyways" and rear facades. "One of the things I will say is that in the design downtown master plan, it did talk about kind of activating the alleyways," Henbrook said.
The mural applicant, listed in the agenda as Karen Mueller, was invited to speak but did not add remarks during the public hearing; the commission opened the public hearing, heard no comments and closed the hearing. Commissioner Michael moved to approve the permit; Jim seconded. Commissioners voted "aye," and the motion carried.
The permit allows the mural as proposed on the building's north-facing wall adjacent to the city parking lot; final permit issuance will follow standard administrative processing and any required documentation.
