Marshfield Utilities reports lead and copper tests mostly below action levels; second round under way

A Marshfield Utilities staff member reported the utility has completed its first round of lead and copper testing with 58 of 60 samples below the action level and has begun a second round of sampling.
The staff member said the utility has collected 58 samples for the second round, sent 50 to the lab and is waiting on two property owners to complete a remaining kit so the utility can send another group of samples. “We have gotten 40 of those results back, and we're currently sitting at 37 of the 40 are below the action level,” the staff member said.
The staff member also said the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) told the utility that, “for the short term here, we don't have to do any of our public education requirements that we were doing for the last 4 to 5 years.” The commission heard the update as information only; staff said they will continue the second round and return results when available. The staff member reminded commissioners they would present related information to the common council at a subsequent meeting.
