Granville Academy holds 2025 commencement at Mary Potter Center

Granville Academy held its commencement for the class of 2025 at the Mary Potter Center for Educational Excellence. School principal Kelly Hellner welcomed graduates and guests and thanked the Granville County Board of Education and other officials for their support. Dr. Stan Wiborne, superintendent of Granville County Schools, and Dr. Helen Lindsey, school board chair, were recognized in remarks and participated in conferring diplomas. Guest George Strader, president of the National Mary Potter Club and a member of the Mary Potter class of 1970, was introduced and acknowledged for his ties to the building's history. Students were recognized for postgraduation plans including attendance at four-year universities (UNC Greensboro, UNC Wilmington, Salem College), two-year institutions (Vance-Granville Community College and Guilford Technical Community College), and entry into the workforce in fields such as health care and HVAC. Academic honors were announced by Missy O'Hara, who described the weighted GPA categories used for distinctions, including the highest honor for students with a 4.0 GPA. Dr. Wiborne formally conferred graduates “by the power vested in me by the state of North Carolina and the Granville County Board of Education.”
