Planning department hires code enforcement officer; village reviews subdivision vacate request and notes building permit surge

The Village of Weston Planning & Development Department told the Land Commission it has hired an assistant zoning administrator/code enforcement officer, discussed a request to vacate an old subdivision, and offered a snapshot of a busy building‑permit period.

Staff said Dustin Gessert will start April 28 as assistant zoning administrator / code enforcement officer. Gessert’s background, staff said, includes work as a police officer, public works experience, facility management and house building; staff said the hire will strengthen code enforcement capacity and assist with building permits this summer.

Staff also reported a request to vacate a subdivision created in the 1960s (the Ryan family plat) that lies partly in Weston and partly in Rothschild. The portion in Weston was never developed; owners have asked the village to vacate the street by resolution. Staff said the village board will receive a resolution and that the resolution then goes to circuit court as required for a plat vacate in this situation.

On development activity, staff said March saw a large number of new home permits with valuation exceeding $4 million in new‑home permits for the period and several new starts in Arrowhead Estates and Green Tree subdivision. Staff said Pine Street storage remains unchanged from the last report, and that trailer park inspections are scheduled in May.

Commissioners welcomed the staffing addition and asked staff to pursue outstanding permit closeouts; staff said the new hire should help clear backlog of inspection and landscaping follow‑ups.
