Volunteer fall cleanup proposed for Sept. 27; county staff details shredder cost, tire collection

Miss Mallory told the Jones County Board of Commissioners on Aug. 5 that staff and volunteers are preparing a fall cleanup and proposed holding the event on Sept. 27, with a two-hour shredder rental and possible tire collection at the site.
“For our spring or excuse me, fall fall cleanup, we are proposing September 27,” Miss Mallory said, and said the group planned to run the shredder for two hours because the vendor’s charge is $500 per hour with a two-hour minimum. She proposed running the shredder from 10 a.m. to noon.
Miss Mallory said the county team has moved to a new building and needs an updated contract address for a contract renewing Aug. 31. She described operational needs for the cleanup: sturdier trash bags, additional bottled water for volunteers, safety vests and grabbers (pickers), and volunteer staffing. She said Tiffany Davis was checking vendor staffing for tire collection and that the vendor Shred Cycle had confirmed availability for the proposed date.
Board members and staff discussed timing around a home football game the evening of Sept. 27 and agreed an earlier start time should allow the cleanup to proceed. Several commissioners indicated they planned to attend the two-hour window.
The update was provided as an informational report; the board did not take formal action or vote on the event date, vendor contract or budget at the meeting. County staff said they would publicize the event and follow up on vendor staffing and contract-address updates before the next meeting.
