Lynn, who described herself as a music scholar recently returned to Bloomington, said she wants to help sustain the city’s multicultural arts offerings. Lynn flagged visa and international-participant challenges at the Lotus Festival and stressed outreach to parts of the city with less access to arts programming.
Committee members asked about grant review priorities. Members noted the Arts Commission awards grants (applicants may request up to $2,000) and said they would look for sustainable project budgets, artist compensation, clear impact statements, and outreach strategies so grants are accessible across neighborhoods. McDonald said she reviews budgets for sustainability and whether artists are paid for their work.
On logistics, both candidates confirmed they can generally attend the Arts Commission’s regular monthly meetings (second Wednesday, 5–6:30 p.m.), with occasional remote attendance when needed. The committee voted, with a second, to appoint Lynn to the council seat; a roll-call in the excerpt recorded affirmative votes. The committee said it would notify the candidates through the Clerk’s Office and coordinate any mayoral recommendation for Brandy with the mayor’s staff.
