New student-board representatives outline homecoming, athletics and student activities

At the Sayreville Board of Education meeting, new high school student council representative Morgan Koontz and Saravo Middle School representative Alana Sarukni updated the board on student activities and athletics.
"My name is Morgan Koontz, and I am the new high school student council board of education representative," Morgan said, listing events including a freshman orientation on Aug. 28, a homecoming dance scheduled for Oct. 5 at 7 p.m., a fall pep rally on Oct. 4 and the opening of the school store that sells shirts and hoodies. Morgan also summarized college-application support the counseling office provided to seniors and listed multiple sports results, including the varsity girls volleyball team's first-ever varsity win against New Brunswick and football's 40-21 win over Edison.
Alana Sarukni, the Saravo Middle School student council representative, described PTO activities, a family fun night, a food-truck night on Oct. 4 and a sixth-grade social on Oct. 4. She also summarized middle-school athletics, including cross-country, field hockey and soccer team records and upcoming home events.
Board members thanked both student representatives, congratulated teams and asked brief follow-up questions about events and scheduling. The reports were presented during the meeting's student-achievement and public-reporting segments.
