The Farmers Branch Senior Advisory Board reviewed a series of upcoming events and programming at its March 13 meeting, including a Fiesta scheduled for the next day, ongoing dances at Venue 1842, a restart of "Friday Franks" in May and a social program series in July and September.
Board members said the Fiesta is scheduled "tomorrow from 1 until 3," and volunteers were asked to arrive at 11 a.m. for setup. The meeting listed menu and activities: chicken and beef tacos, Spanish rice and churro beans, sweet and unsweet tea, a cakewalk with pies from Bartley's Barbecue, a ring-toss prize of a Branch Connection logo cup, a "solo cup challenge" game and a DJ for music. Jessica, a city staff member, described promotional plans including social media, the Branch newsletter and city email.
The board discussed recurring activities. The dance program has continued at Venue 1842 and is expected to return to weekly schedule once the Branch Connection reopens in May. Members noted attendance at recent dances and encouraged continued participation.
Friday Franks will resume in May; the board discussed holding the event on the third Friday and agreed on an 11:30 a.m. start time for the third-Friday schedule in May, June, July and August. The social program series dates were announced as July 11 from 1 to 3 p.m. and Sept. 12 from 5 to 8 p.m. The Veterans Day event will be held Nov. 11 at the Branch Connection, the board said.
Board members also discussed publicity and outreach. Jessica noted the city had hired a marketing partner (referred to as "Rio" in the meeting) to capture and promote returnees who had been using Carrollton locations while the Branch Connection was closed. A board member suggested recording a short video clip with branch members to use in social promotion; Jessica and staff agreed to coordinate.
No formal votes were taken on program scheduling during the meeting; the item served to inform board members and assign informal promotional tasks and volunteer sign-ups for near-term events.
