Granville Early College High School held a commencement ceremony for its Class of 2025 in which many seniors were recognized for completing college coursework and receiving academic honors.
Most of the seniors had already completed college courses through the school's early-college program, the principal said, and several graduates were recognized with Latin honors and as students of merit. "By the power vested in me by the state of North Carolina and the Granville County Board of Education, I hereby declare you graduates," Superintendent Stan Wentworth said as he presented diplomas.
The ceremony opened with a welcome from the GECHS principal, who introduced campus and district leaders onstage, including the school's college liaison, Mrs. Bridal Bullock; Brown Community College President Dr. Rachel Demeris; Granville County Public Schools Board Chair Dr. Helen Lindsey; and district leadership. The principal noted it had been a year of "firsts," including the principal's first graduation at GECHS and that "most of these seniors graduated from VGCC last Friday," underscoring the dual high school–college track for many students.
School staff recognized students of merit, who qualified by earning a cumulative grade-point average of 3.75 for the school year, and announced students earning Latin honors (cum laude, magna cum laude and summa cum laude). The program named multiple students in each category; among those mentioned by name in the ceremony were Sienna Armani and Ethan Browning. Salutatorian Brenda E. (introduced by staff) told classmates, "This achievement is as much yours as it is ours." Valedictorian Grayson Blaine Gull urged graduates to aim high: "Shoot for the stars, my friends. And if you miss, you'll land on a cloud."
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of diplomas. Superintendent Wentworth's ceremonial declaration followed the district's customary practice of conferring diplomas at commencement; no board vote or formal action was recorded during the program.
The event highlighted the early-college structure at Granville Early College High School and the coordination with postsecondary partners that enabled many students to complete college-level coursework before receiving their high school diplomas.
