DeKalb County commissioners deferred action on three space-study proposals and agreed to create a facilities advisory committee to review proposals and advise on long-term county-building strategy.
Staff presented three bids for a combined existing-building assessment and space-needs study: recipients included American StructurePoint (Indianapolis), Ox Agency (Fort Wayne) and Elevatus Architecture; proposals ranged roughly between $62,000 and $75,000 depending on scope and reimbursables. Commissioners asked for time to review the documents and moved to table the selection for two weeks so members could examine the bids in detail.
Commissioners also voted to establish an advisory committee to help evaluate proposals and the consultants' findings when they arrive. The initial committee members discussed included the county treasurer, the director of maintenance, two county council members, and the commissioners as chairs. One commissioner said the ultimate selection would remain the commissioner's decision and that the committee would advise after consultant materials are available.
The board asked staff to assemble a packet of proposals for the next meeting and to schedule advisory-committee meetings once consultants produce their assessments.
