Jones County signs updated roadway list for GDOT speed-permit renewal; school-area change requires separate request

Jones County commissioners approved an updated roadway-speed listing Aug. 19 and authorized signatures so staff can submit a routine speed-permit application to the Georgia Department of Transportation.
A county staff member said the county must reapply every few years to document speed limits for use with speed-detection devices; the previous submission was signed in February 2019 and the current permit expires in December. The staff presenter said nothing significant had changed overall but the submission updates the county’s map and list of roads and lengths.
The presenter noted a separate petition had come from a high school asking to reduce a segment of Railroad Street from 45 mph to 35 mph during school hours; staff said that change would require a separate application and additional review beyond the routine update being approved that night.
The commission approved the updated roadway list by motion and directed the chairman and other commissioners to sign the application for submittal to GDOT.
