The council approved a purchase order for a 2026 Chevrolet Tahoe 4x4 special service vehicle from North Country GM in the amount of $55,739.56 to support Otsego’s emergency services startup.
Chief Steve Roche explained the city received a limited state allocation that opens the opportunity to order SUVs through state contract; he told the council emergency services vehicles are in short supply and that placing the order now should result in delivery in the first half of next year. “By placing the order now, we'll receive the SUV sometime in the first half of next year, and that will give us time to have an outfitter again ready, for operation once the department is up and running,” he said.
Roche said the department previously purchased an F‑250 when SUVs were not available on contract; the plan is to convert that F‑250 into a brush truck once staffing and operations allow. Council Member Corey moved to approve the vehicle purchase and the motion was seconded; the council approved the purchase by voice vote (motion passed 4–1).
Roche said the department will return to council later for separate approval of the vehicle upfitting and that upfitting costs were planned in the department startup budget.
