City of Zephyrhills planning staff described their mobility and transportation priorities to the Pasco MPO board Aug. 21, highlighting work on a locally adopted mobility plan, a transportation mobility element for the city comprehensive plan and prioritized local projects.
Todd Annenberg, planning director for Zephyrhills, said the city developed the mobility plan with community engagement and has incorporated those priorities into its transportation mobility element. Key priorities include traffic safety improvements, complete‑streets design for downtown corridors (including a reimagined Dalh Boulevard), three high‑priority trail projects (Fort King Road extension, Geiger Road sidewalk/trail and Wire Road connections), bus‑stop shelters and a planned bus transfer station.
Annenberg and city staff described potential capacity projects, including 4‑lane extensions of some corridors to respond to industrial and warehouse development in the area. The city requested MPO cooperation on design work and coordination with the county for implementation because some key corridors are county facilities.
Zephyrhills staff emphasized the importance of preserving industrial land with rail access and prioritizing freight‑friendly design at new intersections and access points; they noted projects under way and design work to address local hotspots and to enable redevelopment consistent with the city’s form‑based code.
No formal MPO action was required; the presentation was informational and staff said they will continue to coordinate project design and funding with the MPO and Pasco County.
