Board signs premises agreements for two bridge replacements; county applies for CHPP bridge grants

The Chickasaw County Board of Supervisors on June 9 approved two permission‑to‑enter agreements needed to replace local bridges and heard an engineering update that the county will pursue federal CHPP (Bridge) grant funding for multiple structures.

County Engineer Roman presented a permission‑to‑enter agreement with Shane Barlow for the Trixico Bridge replacement (project LFY260273‑19) and a separate agreement with Bucki Brothers LLC for the Trixox College Bridal replacement (LFY260173‑19). Both agreements will allow county crews and contractors access to private property for construction and were approved with the county chair’s signature; roll call votes were recorded as 4–0 with one absence.

Roman provided a broader project update: multiple county bridge and road projects are active this construction season, contractors and precast suppliers are being coordinated, and two bridge proposals were noted as candidates for a CHPP FY‑25 Notice of Funding Opportunity. Roman said the county submitted approximately $2 million in requests on two bridges and was preparing a CHPP packet for eight candidate structures; he explained that an 80% federal share would require local matching funds and outlined possible local sources for matches (secondary road funds, local option sales tax, infrastructure fund or TIF).

There was no further board action recorded on the CHPP application during the meeting; Roman said he would continue grant preparation and would notify the board if local match decisions are needed after award notifications.
